Capacity development in HIV and MEntal health Research in Asia (CHIMERA)

Project Timeline

Capacity development in HIV and MEntal health Research in Asia (CHIMERA) is being carried out with The Foundation for AIDS Research and is the region’s first HIV-mental health IR training program.

CHIMERA is a five-year (2019 – 2024) HIV, mental health, and implementation science research training program funded by the Fogarty International Center and the National Institute of Mental Health of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). CHIMERA aims to address the critical need to build capacity among Asia-Pacific (i.e., Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines) clinicians and researchers to study the intersection between HIV and mental health.

It leverages the existing network UM has established with researchers in Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Importantly, this project brings forward IR training as an important tool for bridging the gaps between HIV and mental health to inform local health policies and improve the quality of clinical care.
